Membership in the Hall of Fame is the highest honor GardenComm can bestow on a member whose life and career has materially reflected and advanced the objectives of GardenComm. Hall of Fame candidates are nominated by the membership, recommended by the Honors Committee and elected by the Board of Directors. Members of the Hall of Fame are excused from dues. Self-nominations are welcome.
Ellen Zachos is a Harvard graduate and the author of eleven books including Mythic Plants: Potions and Poisons from the Gardens of the Gods, The Wildcrafted Cocktail, and How to Forage for Wild Edible Plants Without Dying. Ellenβs first career was on Broadway (cast of Les Miz), but the gift of a peace lily on opening night changed everything when it opened her eyes to the wonderful world of horticulture. Ellen earned several certificates at the New York Botanic Garden, then taught there for many years, also serving as Coordinator of the Gardening Department in Continuing Ed. She also designed, installed, and maintained rooftop gardens in NYC, before moving to Santa Fe, NM. Ellen was named a Great American Gardener by the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, and for six years, she was the co-host of the award-winning Plantrama podcast with C.L. Fornari.
