Professional success in the garden industry depends on expert communication. Develop your skills and expand your network here!

SPEAK! Captivating an audience – whether it’s at a board
meeting or before a conference hall – is a skill that must be studied and practiced. Through direct interaction with some of the most renowned professional garden speakers in the
country, learn the skills and grow the network that will help you spread
the unique message you have to offer.
PHOTOGRAPH! A picture may be worth a thousand words, but these days a Facebook live feed is worth a million likes. Develop your photography capabilities and curate a library of photos that will bring your stories to life. Through interaction with the industry’s leading garden photographers, grow your own skills in photo editing, handling, software, business, and more.
GET ON THE AIR With the whole world plugged into their phones 24/7, podcasts and radio programs are a savvy way to position yourself in the industry. Talk with radio hosts at GardenComm meetings about how you can host a gardening program or create your own podcast. Even more, find interview opportunities that will help publicize your interests and promote your brand.
MEASURE THE PULSE OF THE INDUSTRY GardenComm keeps you up to speed on what’s happening in the industry. Learn about new plants, products, problems and consumer trends from member emails, forums, and at regional and national meetings.
MEET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS SOMEONE More than anything, GardenComm is a place for networking. Members are eager and able to help one another connect with the people and resources they need to move forward with their gardening careers.
RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES One of the highlights of GardenComm membership is the annual conference. GWA conferences provide access to colorful gardens throughout North America at the time when you can actually get away. Our meetings take place in different locations every year, allowing for interesting travel that fits into your growing season.
Maximizing Your Membership
After you've joined, here are three ways to get connected...
- Reach out in our members-only forum (the “Communities” page under “Member’s Resources” on the website) and start a conversation. Introduce yourself and your interests. Ask questions and get feedback from other GardenComm members.
- Form or join a special interest group with other members. These are called GardenComm Power Circles and they meet remotely via conference calls, webinars or Skype. There are many special-interest topics, with new ones added frequently. Learn more at here or contact GardenComm at 212.297.2198 or info@gardenwriters.org.
- Attend regional and national meetings when possible. Regional meetings are smaller, and will provide a taste of what GardenComm is all about.
GWA offers many other opportunities and benefits including legal advice, travel discounts and so much more. Whatever you want to grow, and wherever you want to go, GWA is ready to help!

Member Stories
"When I first joined GardenComm, I had no experience with public writing or speaking. Two years later, I've been published a dozen times, have a book proposal under review and have been asked to speak at several events in my region. The communication skills and connections I gained through GardenComm gave a high-voltage boost to my new career as a gardener and designer. I can't imagine moving forward without the support and generosity of this skilled and highly-connected community."
