GardenComm Hosting Summit to Train the Next Generation of Horticulturalists and Garden Communicators
NEW YORK – Young professionals looking to transition their horticultural or communications education into stable careers will have the chance to hear directly from veteran garden communicators and designers at GardenComm’s annual CareerNext Summit on March 2. The day-long event will include a tour of Magnolia Planation and Gardens, located outside of Charleston, South Carolina, and a jam-packed schedule of education sessions lead by garden media superstars.
“A sustainable green industry is critical for the wellbeing of everyone’s future. Young men and women who enjoy working with plants need opportunities to learn their craft and also to hear what the job possibilities are for their future,” said Becky Heath, GardenComm president. “CareerNext is an opportunity for the industry to engage the next generation and help them grow into the horticultural experts and media superstars that our world desperately needs.”
The summit will bring together speakers from around the country to address topics such as creating a social media brand, how to transition from a hands-on horticulturalist to a career in garden communications, and garden designing in big cities. Our speakers include:
- Katie Elzer-Peters, The Garden of Words LLC, horticulturist, digital marketing specialist and book project manager;
- Chris Freimuth, founder of CF Gardens, a design, installation and maintenance firm in New York City;
- Tony Bertauski, horticulture program director, Trident Technical College, Charleston, South Carolina;
- Kyle Barnette, executive director of the Charleston Horticultural Society;
- Abra Lee, columnist for Northside Woman magazine, and owner of Conquer The Soil, LLC.
GardenComm is offering free CareerNext Summit registration to the first 20 students who use the code “CareerNext-Student” at checkout. Additionally, as a special bonus to all event attendees, Middleton Plantation will offer free admission from Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 3 to individuals who show their CareerNext confirmation e-mail at Middleton’s front desk.
