Option 1: Historic Tour (Early Morning Photoshoot)
This tour of downtown historic sites and homes will showcase a broad range of landscape styles. We’ll begin at the rooftop meadow garden of the LDS Church’s Conference Center, one of the largest roof gardens in the United States, then work our way through street-level gardens in Victorian, cottage and modern styles. Next, we head for Salt Lake City’s Avenues neighborhood to visit the lush, xeric plantings at IHC’s Healing Garden as well as some lovely private gardens with city views.
Option 2: Food Production Tour
A visit to the pottager at the Urban Garden Company brings a little country to the city. Experience community-supported agriculture and hunger relief on an international scale with the next stop at Welfare Square. The New Roots Garden, a program of the International Rescue Committee, integrates new Americans into our systems while providing means to grow foods important to their native cultures. We complete the tour at the Grateful Tomato Garden operated by Wasatch Community Gardens—one of many gardens providing gardening and education opportunities for city residents.
